Résumé
This study aimed to investigate the role of microfinance institutions 2017. To achieve the objectives of this study the descriptive method was used. A questionnaire was developed covering all relevant study variables. The questionnaire was revised and approved by referees with expertise in the area of the study, subsequently the questionnaire was distributed and responses gathered. The study concluded the following : The microfinance has a positive social and economic impacts on the poverty and unemployment by decreasing the unemployment and improving the living standards and supports the borrowers to develop their projects. The borrowers active in the fields of agriculture and services benefited the most from the loans they have received. The study recommends the microfinance institutions to increase their exposure towards the agricultural sector through offering more loans for the borrowers active in this sector as they benefitted the most from the loans. The researcher also recommends the institutions to extend the loan offering to include borrowers from the industrial sector as it is labor intensive and therefore would contribute to increasing job opportunities and decreasing unemployment. The government has to increase its support to this kind of institutions and develop their work as part of the governmental future plans. Also the institutions should consider distributing their lending portfolios to take into account the structure of Palestinian economy and the current and future governments’ economic policies.
