Résumé
Reservoirs play an important role in utilization and effective management of water resources. Most reservoirs are constructed as a single or multipurpose based on the demands of end users. Mostly in a system of reservoirs, due to intended purpose of each reservoir there will be a clash in meeting pre-defined objectives. As a result, optimal operation of a reservoir system is very important to balance various conflicting issues related to water allocation. In this research the general logical structure for doing a study on transboundary reservoir system optimization is stated in relation with methodology followed. Existing simulation model of study area is used to understand the performance of reservoir system and develop operational scenarios based on coordinated and non-coordinated reservoir system operation in the sub-basin. For each scenario, optimization problem is formulated consisting of objective function, decision variable and constraints based on purpose of each reservoir and current water management issues. Following definition of the optimization problem setup components, suitable optimization algorithm is selected to find optimum decision variables by coupling it with simulation model. The modelling tools used in this study are selected based on the existing MIKE HYDRO Basin simulation model. The selected optimization algorithm is coupled with existing simulation model using MIKE SDK in python environment. Bio inspyred python library is selected since the algorithm implements evolutionary computations (EC) to find the best solution from the search space. The optimization algorithms implemented in this study are selected based on formulated single and multi-objective optimization problems. For single objective optimization problem, Simulation-optimization model is setted up by developing a custom evolutionary computation code in python and coupling it with simulation model. Whereas, in the case of Multi-objective optimization problem setup, Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA II) implementation has been coupled with simulation model to carry out model based optimization. Finally optimal policy for reservoir system operation is developed based on each formulated optimization problem setup. Comparison of obtained results in this study considers evaluating the conflicting objectives of reservoir system operation and country level interests. The results of comparison shows possible gains and losses during implementation of selected operational strategy.
