Résumé
The concept of carrying capacity serves as a base for defining the sustainability of economic activities. The carrying capacity of the Earth is determined by two main factors : the availability of resources, including food supplies, and the environment’s capacity to absorb and detoxify the waste, which implies that the capacity of resilience and homeostasis of the ecosystem is not exceeded. The objective of the investigation is to propase a model for assessing the tourism carrying capacity in protected areas which serve as an analytical too ! in the management and planning of recreation and tourism activities that lead to sustainable use of it. The specific objectives are to analyze the management program of two protected areas of the State of Mexico, to determine the tourism carrying capacity of two state parks of the State of Mexico, and to propase indicators of management of tourism activities in parks and natural areas. The management programs reviewed are from the state parks of Sierra Patlachique and Sierra de Tepotzotlán, and is determined the tourism carrying capacity of two sites named "Módulo Recreativo Cuevas de la Amistad" and "Centro Ecoturístico y de Educación Ambiental Arcos del Sitio", respectively. The proposed indicators are environmental indicators ( erosion, amount of waste generated), social indicators ( daily visitors, visitar satisfaction) and management indicators (state of the infrastructure ). The proposed model consists of six phases : l. Preparation phase, 11. Description phase, III. Valuation phase, IV. Planning phase, V. Monitoring phase, and VI. Review phase ; each phase is composed of stages with their respective activities. Due to the intrinsic characteristics of the tourism carrying capacity and of the elements of the protected area (physical, biological, social), which are dynamic and variable over time, the proposed model also shares the same characteristics. The proposed model for assessing the tourism carrying capacity in protected areas is a too ! that will help the protected area managers to make decisions about tourism activities in order to not exceed the capacity of homeostasis and resilience for a sustainable development
