The study also found out that the drought seriously impacted on the crop production and caused the loss of 83% of the poultry. Farmers also employed a number of drought coping strategies like : reducing size of the food portions, skipping meals, eating wild fruits and vegetables, borrowing and migration. The Chi square result verified a significant relationship between household‟s characteristics, strategies of coping and grain production levels during drought. The indigenous knowledge systems used in crisis anticipation and response to droughts are very important in safeguarding the lives of the people in the communities.
