Résumé
Water contamination with heavy metals through the discharge of industrial wastewater is a worldwide environmental problem due to their toxicity. Rapid industrialization has seriously contributed to the release of toxic heavy metals to water streams. These heavy metals are non bio- degradable and their presence in streams and lakes leads to bio- accumulation in living organisms, causing problems in animals plants, human beings and aquatic life, so the removal and recovery of these metals from industrial effluents offer a wide field of research. The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of utilization of low – cost adsorbent which is effective and economical such as palm date pits for the removal of Copper (Cu), Chromium (Cr+6) and iron (Fe) in order to consider its application to treat industrial wastewater. Column adsorption experiments were carried out to evaluate the removal of heavy metals from synthetic wastewater using the palm date pits as adsorbent under various conditions of pH, contact time (T), depth of layer (L), initial concentration (Co), and particle size. Adsorption studies were carried out at various pH values (3.5-7.5) at temperature ranging between 27+2°C, and at heavy metals initial concentration of (10-50) mg/L in synthetic wastewater, contact time between of (30-90) min, depth of layer between of (40-90) cm, and particle size between (1.5-0.5) mm
