Résumé
The research identifies sustainable development approaches as main support to conservation projects in architecture and urban heritage in Yemen. The research aims to identify reasons of success and failure in application of sustainable development policies in conservation projects of Yemeni Architecture. The research is divided into ; the theoretical section which includes the concepts and literature of sustainable development, addressing main characteristics of heritage in Yemeni cities, concepts of heritage value and its relation to urban and architectural heritage conservation techniques, and sustainable approaches, and presents examples by developing countries in the field of architectural and urban heritage conservation. The second imperical field study contains a pilot field study for Sana’a, Shibam- Hadramot and Zabid cities included of International World Heritage and an in depth field study for the techniques of conservation in Zabid.
