Résumé
The present study covers the Girga Region (located in the vicinity of Souhag Governorate), where the land reclamation activities has been started since the early eighties. Where about 165 km2 are planned to be reclaimed based on groundwater. The main objective of the study is to evaluate the groundwater potential within the study area and assess the behavior (both qualitative and quantitative) of the Nile aquifer system under proposed different groundwater development (pumpage) schemes. To fulfill this objective a comprehensive hydrogeological study was implemented. A numerical model covering the study area was employed where the latest MODFLOW package, version 4.2 was used. Several groundwater development schemes were proposed and evaluated based on the relative changes in both drawdown and salinity. Some of these scenarios were proposed by the researcher to be considered as a future groundwater development plan for the study area.
