Résumé
To study the effect of supplementary feeding on production performance, an experiment was conducted during August, 2015 to November, 2015 with the 24 Marwari lambs of same age (6 month) and uniform confirmation. Lambs were distributed by randomized block design into three groups having 8 animals in each group. Animals of T1 group restricted to grazing whereas animals of T2 and T3 groups were provided supplementation with 200g and 400g respectively with the experimental complete feed block. To assess the effect of supplementary feeding in lambs body weight gain, feed efficiency, body measurement, haemato-biochemical parameter, wool quality parameters and comparative economics were worked out. Significant effect of treatment was observed on body weight gain, body length, height, chest girth and abdominal girth. Significant effect of treatment was observed on blood protein and blood urea nitrogen but values of these falls within normal physiological range whereas haemoglobin, blood glucose and blood cholesterol found statistically similar in treatment groups. Beneficial effect of treatment on almost all wool quality parameters except the fibre diameter was observed. The results of feed efficiency and comparative economics of additional live weight gain suggest that supplementation @ 200g were found to be more economical. It was concluded that the plane of nutrition significantly affected the live weight gains and wool quality in T2 and T3 group animals. This indicated that the availability of roughage to lambs under grazing alone (extensive system) was not sufficient enough. It was also concluded from the results, that increased growth measured in body weight, height, length, heart and abdominal girth was found with the increased supplementation in semi-intensive system of management at all stages.
