Rice is considered as one of the most important food and cash crop for more than half of the world population. More than two billion of the world population takes 60-70% of their calorie needs from rice. It is the most important food element in many countries where there is low income and food shortage. The main objective of this study was to analyze the economics of aerobic rice production in Gezira State, for the growing season 2016 / 17. The study used primary and secondary data. The primary data were collected through personal interviews using structured questionnaire and secondary data from different institutional sources including Ministry of Agriculture and Rice Promotion Unit in Gezira State. A sample of 101 farmers has been randomly selected from various localities in the State. Descriptive statistics, multiple linear regression and gross margin analysis were used to analyze the data. The results showed that the technical factors and the socio- economic factors had a significant influence on rice production in the study area. The gross margin analysis showed that aerobic rice is a profitable enterprise in the study area with an average gross margin of 18,202.38 SDG/ha. Furthermore, the gross margin analysis of unit area of aerobic rice and sorghum crops in the study area showed that comparatively aerobic rice had secured higher gross margin and profit than sorghum. Aerobic rice is a new crop in Gezira State. Therefore, the study recommends that more attention should be given to rice technical packages and their application through activating the extension services role and making further studies on various aspects related to rice crop production in the Stat
