Résumé
Water crisis is an important issue in Iran and consecutive droughts, inappropriate water use in agriculture, industries and indoor sectors has caused various plans by ministries and water-related departments to decrease water usage and better utilization of surface and groundwater resources. The proper cultivation pattern of agricultural products is one of the strategies in coordination with the Ministries of Agriculture and Ministry of Energy joint to reduce water consumption in terms of sustainable agriculture. The main aim of this study is to assess the surface/groundwater resources of Hir area in Ardabil province to determine appropriate cropping patterns and optimize water use. The necessary meteorological parameters, mean precipitation values, and available water resources were obtained and the extent of irrigated cultivation and rainfed crops along with common agricultural products were obtained through main data base of the study area. The CROPWAT software was used to calculate the right amount of water needed for the irrigated crops. According to the results, the available water (37 cubic million meters) was not sufficient for irrigation of farms and orchards. While, the value of needed water of the study area was 59 cubic million meters, which mean a change in the cultivation cropping pattern along with employing the new irrigation techniques over the irrigated farms and orchards. The areal extent of irrigated fields is about 16000 hectares, and the needed water amount of Potato and Alfalfa are higher than other agricultural products. The results showed that the cultivation area of Potato, Wheat, Barley and Alfalfa should be reduced and rapeseed is suggested as a low-consumption and alternative crop, which is an effective way to optimize the use of water resources in the study area.
