Akadeli is presented as one of the many villages in which the poverty is the business card for those who are not aware of the serious social situation that afflicts the Third World countries. We are on the African continent, in the state of Kenya and in particular, in the Central county of Isiolo, a territory strongly conditioned by continuous droughts and a landscape arid and semi desert. We became aware of the difficult situation of Akadeli through the Valsesian association "Un villaggio per amico” who, after visiting the country, heard need to help local people. This non-profit organization aims to help and support the world of childhood through education and ensuring food and economic independence to all the families in the village. For this reason, the association has funded and built several projects for the sustenance of the inhabited center including a well, for the recovery of drinking water, and three buildings linked to the system school including a nursery school, a primary school e a canteen that hosts students. However, despite these excellent interventions, Akadeli lives still subsistence and on the margins of poverty, due of the lack of a real organization that allow them to be an autonomous village. Basic services are absent, like health facilities and above all the electricity and sewerage network. The inhabitants themselves also live in huts built with improvised materials that don’t allow to get a comfortable living inside. For this reason, the following work stands as goal to develop a village project, focusing on Akadeli, which is autonomous and self-made with local materials. In addition to bringing in village the functions that are currently missing and that still today they force the inhabitants to travel different kilometers to reach the nearest city, design home’s model that is tailored of the demands of the inhabitants, that it is self-made by the families themselves, so as to involve them in the full of the work and above all that it is built at km0, that is, exploiting all the material that the territory can do to offer. Being in such an extreme situation and having very few resources to use, the project intends to fully interact with the environment surrounding using the material available on site, best studying the orientation of the building in order to guarantee an excellent performance of natural ventilation, of sunshine and shade as well as of a minimum impact on the environment. The idea of housing module will be the starting point for the village Akadeli and will be repeatable and adaptable to any other African village.
