Résumé
A rainfall-runoff modelling has been made on a small Jordan watershed named Muwaqqar (70 km$\sp2$). This modelling is part of a larger study involving the development of a forecasting and optimization model for water resources in arid and semi-arid regions. A careful study of arid and semi-arid regions was conducted in preparation for the rainfall-runoff modelling on the Muwaqqar watershed. A review of available hydrological models, based mainly on WMO (World Meteorological Organization) intercomparison reports, helped in choosing the parametric CEQUEAU model from INRS-Eau (Quebec) to do the simulations. The available data were limited as is the case for most arid and semi-arid watersheds. After manipulations with the input data, the distributed model has been used with different grid sizes. A square grid of 1km*1km covering the whole basin (70km$\sp2$) has been used to simulate daily discharges at two sites (5.5 km$\sp2$ & 0.5 km$\sp2$). A square grid of 100m*100m has been used to simulate daily discharges on a sub-basin of 0.5 km$\sp2$. A calibration period has been made with four months of available data. (December 1993 to March 1994). The results are good, but additional data would contribute to do a verification period. With projects like the rainfall-runoff modelling, we want to introduce good agricultural practices for regions receiving less than 200mm of mean annual precipitation.
