Breaking the Vicious Circle of Slash-and-Burn (Madagascar)

Titre : Breaking the Vicious Circle of Slash-and-Burn (Madagascar)

Pays  : Madagascar

Date/Durée : 2016 – 2020

Projet ID : MDG 1046-16

Madagascar’s Midongy du Sud National Park is threatened by illegal logging and slash-and-burn farming. Erosion and the flooding caused by cyclones are worsening. The valleys themselves are highly fertile, but harvests there have been repeatedly destroyed. To improve nutrition levels while protecting resources, this project promotes more sustainable cultivation techniques and creates sources of income that make use of the rainforest without destroying it. New roads have been built to link the isolated valleys better to markets, so that farmers can sell their produce there.
